AVS 16LC, Raptor Migration and Population Fluctuations. Lecture and field-based curriculum; introduces lower division students to ecological concepts and methodologies (e.g., life history trade-offs, point counts, stable isotope analysis), developed methods for assessing student learning.
AVS 115, Raptor Biology. Upper division curriculum covering the study of birds of prey: classification, distribution, habits and habitats, migration, unique anatomical and physiological adaptations, natural and captive breeding, health and diseases, environmental concerns, conservation, legal considerations, rehabilitation, and falconry.
ECL 290, Avian Ecology: Ecological theory, behavior, and conservation of birds. Fall 2014. Graduate seminar addressing current research in avian ecology. This course examines aspects of ecological theory, behavioral ecology, and conservation and management issues of avian populations.
AVS/ECL290, Melanism in Avian systems. Spring 2015. Graduate seminar reviewing of the ecological, physiological, behavioral, and genetic implications of variation in melanistic coloration in avian systems.
